When Do You Start Preparing Your Child for School Success?

Gone are the days when children are expected to be seen and not heard. Many modern parents start preparing for their children's school success earlier and earlier so they can compete not just in the work force, but also as they progress through school.
What are the best ways to prepare children for school success?
1. Get as much education as you can before becoming pregnant. Educated parents tend to feel more confident in helping with homework and be better able financially to afford the many expenses involved with school.
2. Don't count on your baby to make you happy, you should be happy first. Enter counseling if you need help dealing with your life challenges or unresolved issues from your past. The best gift you can give your children is a happy, positive environment.
3. Reevaluate your values, beliefs and philosophy. These are what you will be passing on to your children and will in part determine the kind of people they will become.
4. Get prenatal care throughout pregnancy. Eat a balanced and healthy diet, exercise following your doctors instruction and take classes offered at your medical or community facilities. Good health promotes a good mood and enables you to deal more evenly with the stresses and frustration that will come your way.
In a recent Roper Public Opinion Poll 91% of the parents surveyed felt that parents are preparing children earlier and earlier. 70% believe that their children must learn how to use media technologies or they will fall behind in school. This was reported today at a "National Back-to-School" media briefing lead by PBS and PTA.
Your child's start begins with the preparations you make from the moment you decide to become a parent. Make them purposeful, well-planned and thorough.
